shortstop Billy Rogell had 3 base hits and 2 RBI as the Detroit Tigers



outscored the Boston Red Sox 5 to 0.







Rowe(19-8) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the



Boston batters. He surrendered only 4 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings.



Detroit banged out 11 on the afternoon.







Johnny Welch(11-8) ended up with the loss. He surrendered 11 hits and 1 walk



in 6 and 1/3 innings.

Tony Lazzeri cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Lefty Gomez allowed Joe



McCarthy to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the New York Yankees



topped the St. Louis Browns by a score of 12 to 7 at Sportsman's



Park.







Lazzeri provided the offensive punch. He blasted a solo shot in the 2nd



inning, lashed a single in the 4th inning, hit a one-base hit in the 6th



inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 12th of the season) in the 8th



inning. Both teams finished the game with 14 hits.







The win was credited to Gomez(21-9) who went the whole way allowing 7 runs.



Jack Knott(5-7) was the loser. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 5 and



1/3 innings of work.

Johnny Murphy pitched a complete game as the New York Yankees defeated the St.



Louis Browns by the score of 6 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.







New York came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2



hits. After an out was recorded, Murphy began the rally when he drew a walk.



Frank Crosetti stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Red Rolfe



then doubled knocking in a run. After another out, Chapman was safe on a



stolen base. Lou Gehrig came to the plate and was walked intentionally to



load the bases. George Selkirk did his part to keep things going and lined a



single driving home another two teammates. Selkirk took second on the throw.



Both teams totaled 8 on the afternoon.







The victory went to Murphy(10-7) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Ivy



Andrews(5-8) suffered the loss in relief. He pitched 1 inning and



surrendered 1 hit and 2 walks.

surrendering 11 hits and 2 walks. Philadelphia had 13 hits for the



afternoon.







Roy Vaughn earned the save, his 1st. Lloyd Brown(4-11) was hit with the loss



in relief. The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 70-61. With the



loss Cleveland now has a record of 66-68.

Shortstop Luke Appling touched them all and had 2 RBI as the Chicago White Sox

Chicago took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 2nd inning with 3 runs



utilizing 3 base hits. Appling kicked off the action when he ripped a



base-knock. Jackie Hayes came next and he slapped a base-hit. Marty Hopkins



then slapped a one-base hit resulting in a run. Hopkins took second on the



throw. Merv Shea stepped in and he hit a deep fly plating one more runner.



Milt Gaston came to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run



of the inning. Chicago ended up with 11 hits for the game while Washington



had 7.







The victory was credited to Gaston(7-12) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing



4 runs. Vern Kennedy recorded the save, his 1st. Monte Weaver(9-13) was the



losing pitcher. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 4 and 1/3



innings.

The Chicago White Sox edged the struggling Washington Nationals in 13 innings



at Comiskey Park by the score of 6 to 5.







The score was tied at 5 after nine. Chicago came out on top in the 13th



inning. Al Simmons lined a one-base hit. Syd Cohen then had one get away



for a wild pitch. After an out was recorded, Cohen stepped up to the plate



and he unleashed a wild pitch. Luke Appling came up and he lined a single



resulting in a mighty exciting win for Chicago and the 1,858 home town fans



in attendance. The game was a wild affair with the lead changing hands 5



times.







The win was credited to Joe Heving(4-3) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.



The losing pitcher was Cohen(0-1) in relief.







With this win, Chicago has a 50-82 record. They have been 4-6 lately. Joe



Cronin was pretty down after the loss. 'We've really been sputtering along



lately, something like 1-9 in the last week or two. That won't get it done.'
