Medwick had a big day at the plate. He delivered a base-hit in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning, doubled clearing all three ducks off the pond. in the 4th inning and doubled resulting in a run in the 7th inning. Boston made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across. The win was credited to Tex Carleton(18-6) who went 8 innings allowing 8 runs. Carleton got help from Jesse Haines who earned his 8th save. The losing pitcher was Bob Brown(3-5). He allowed 7 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. 'You have to give Boston credit, they fought us tough to the end' Frankie Frisch said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the victory.' The score was 10 to 4. Paul Derringer(9-13) gave Cincinnati a solid outing. He went 8 innings surrendering 9 hits and no walks. Cincinnati managed 14 in their victory. Fred Fitzsimmons(19-7) took the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and no walks in 6 innings. Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Philadelphia pulled the game out in the 12th inning. After two outs Harvey Hendrick hit a single. Dick Bartell came next and he delivered a single. Bud Tinning then threw a pitch that the catcher muffed scoring the run. Philadelphia totaled 9 on the afternoon. Phil Collins(12-10) allowed 2 runs in 11 innings, and picked up the victory. Collins got help from Bill Lohrman who was credited with his 2nd save. Tinning(6-6) was the loser in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 inning of work.
