Hal Schumacher went yard and had 2 RBI at Polo Grounds where the seemingly



unstoppable New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 8



to 3.







Philadelphia was unable to recover after New York went ahead in the 2nd inning



scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. Philadelphia was out-hit by New York, 13 hits



to 5.







The victory went to Schumacher(10-8) who went 8 and 1/3 innings, allowing 3



runs. Snipe Hansen(5-5) was tagged with the loss. New York continued their



winnings ways improving their record to a league leading 59-35. They are



10-0 in their last ten games. With this loss, Philadelphia has a 5-5 record



of late, 41-53 overall.

Gus Suhr had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the St. Louis



Cardinals in 11 innings 8 to 7 at Forbes Field.







The game was deadlocked at 7 after nine full innings. Pittsburgh won it in



the 11th inning. Paul Waner slapped a base-hit. Arky Vaughan came next and



he lined a one-base hit. Vaughan took second on the throw. Fred Lindstrom



then would hit into a fielders choice resulting in an exciting win for



Pittsburgh and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans.



Pittsburgh and St. Louis each finished the afternoon with 16 hits.







Leon Chagnon(5-1) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Dazzy



Vance(3-4) absorbed the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 8 hits in



3 innings.
