It was a laugher out at Ebbetts Field. The Boston Braves squad ripped

Brooklyn pitching for a total of 15 runs. Flint Rhem(6-6), with relief help

from Leo Mangum, surrendered 3 runs to Brooklyn.

Buck Jordan was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine

day at their team's expense. He smacked a single in the 1st inning, belted a

three-run homer (his 4th of the season) in the 2nd inning and hit a one-base

hit in the 4th inning. Boston provided plenty of action in the 6th inning

which saw them plate 5 runs on 4 hits. For the game Boston out-hit Brooklyn

18 to 13.

Van Lingle Mungo(9-13) ended up with the loss. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings

and surrendered 8 hits and no walks.

Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the dreadful Cincinnati Reds 6 to

2.

Chicago drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning

scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. Chicago finished with 13 hits in the victory.

Bush(9-6) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Tony Freitas(3-9)

New York Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the count of 2 to 1.

New York went ahead for good in the 4th inning scoring a single run on 2 hits.

Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but New York was able to put down the

rally.

Fitzsimmons(16-6) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Curt

Davis(8-11) was charged with the loss. 'We didn't get the key hits when we

needed them' Jimmie Wilson said. 'We did what we could, we just didn't pull

out the win. What can you say?'

NEW YORK AT PHILADELPHIA

Hansen got help from Cy Moore who was credited with his 2nd save. Bell(1-3)

suffered the loss.

The win by Philadelphia is a very welcome one as they have been struggling in

recent days. Their record now stands at 43-59 - only 2-8 in their last ten

games. With this loss, New York has a 7-3 record of late, 65-38 overall.
