Jackie Hayes had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Harry Kinzy closed it out for Chicago as







the Chicago White Sox defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 10 to 8







at Griffith Stadium.















Chicago erupted with the game winning runs in the top of the 8th inning with 2







runs utilizing 3 base hits. Jimmy Dykes led off and he lined a one-base hit.







Hayes stepped up next and he slapped a base-hit. Marty Hopkins followed,







but he was set down on strikes. One out later, Bob Boken came to the plate







and doubled driving home two runs. Joe Heving(3-3) got help from Kinzy who







pitched great and earned his 2nd save.















Alex McColl(5-2) was charged with the loss in relief. He allowed a few too







many baserunners giving up 5 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 1/3 innings.

Catcher Frankie Hayes went yard and Sugar Cain completed the game without help







from the bullpen as the Philadelphia Athletics outscored the Cleveland







Indians 5 to 3.















Philadelphia scored the decisive runs in a big 8th inning with 2 runs on 3







hits. Bob Johnson got things rolling when he blasted a solo shot (his 34th







of the season). Lou Finney next to the plate and he doubled. Pinky Higgins







then doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia took care of







Cleveland with no trouble in the 9th.















Cain(13-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Clint







Brown(0-1) suffered the loss. He allowed 3 homeruns in 7 innings of work.

Jo-Jo White had 2 base hits and 4 RBI at Fenway Park as the Detroit Tigers







beat the Boston Red Sox 13 to 5.















Detroit went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning when they tallied 4







runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by White who silenced Fenway







Park as he lashed a single plating two runs. Detroit had 14 hits for the







game and Boston had 10.















The victory went to General Crowder(6-6) who went 5 and 2/3 innings, allowing







4 runs. Luke Hamlin earned the save, his 2nd. The loss was charged to Lefty







Grove(6-4). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 6







innings.















With this win, Detroit has a 62-53 record. They have been 4-6 lately. With







this loss, Boston has a 3-7 record of late, 68-49 overall.

Rube Walberg(7-6) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the







Detroit offense and allowed 14 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

At Yankee Stadium the New York Yankees outscored the St. Louis Browns 7 to

New York scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th inning. The big moment was







provided by Tony Lazzeri who brought a roar from the partisan Yankee Stadium







fans when he laced a base-knock which was good for two runs. St. Louis







threatened in the 9th but New York was able to put down the rally.















Johnny Murphy(8-6) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 2/3 innings and







allowing 4 runs. Johnny Allen recorded the save, his 1st. Bump Hadley(7-14)







was the loser.















Joe McCarthy was beaming after the game, 'Not only were we making good







contact, but a lot of balls we hit seemed to have 'eyes'! I just love winning







these tight ones! It was just our day - no doubt about it!'

Bill Dickey cracked a homer and had 4 RBI and Johnny Broaca was able to finish

topped the St. Louis Browns by a score of 10 to 3 at Yankee Stadium.















Dickey made sure the New York fans enjoyed themselves. He lofted a three-run







bomb (his 7th of the season) in the 1st inning, doubled which plated a run in







the 6th inning and smacked a single in the 7th inning. New York totaled 13







on the afternoon.















Broaca(10-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Dick
