In a one-sided affair the Boston Red Sox batters pounded the Detroit Tigers







pitchers for 10 runs while Fritz Ostermueller(5-8), with relief help from







Johnny Welch, contained Detroit.















Boston took the lead off Tommy Bridges in the first inning as they scored 4







runs on 4 base hits. The early run support proved sufficient for







Ostermueller and Boston. That was all the run support Ostermueller required.







Boston finished with 12 hits while Detroit ended up with 8.















Bridges(9-10) took the loss. With this win, Boston has a 54-37 record. They







have been 7-3 lately. With the loss, the Detroit ballclub's record is 52-37.

St. Louis scored all of the necessary runs in the 7th inning when they







exploded for 7 runs on 6 hits. The big moment was provided by Jack Burns who







electrified Sportsman's Park when he brought the hometown folks to their feet







with a Grand Slammer (his 9th of the season). New York had a chance to come







back in the 9th but they came up short.















The win went to Bill McAfee(3-2) who allowed 3 runs in 3 innings. Red







Ruffing(9-6) ended up with the loss. He gave up 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings







of work.















'Some losses are harder to take than others' Joe McCarthy lamented after the







game. 'This was one of them.'

Jimmie Foxx was a one-man wrecking crew. He launched a Grand Slam homerun







(his 35th of the season) in the 1st inning, tripled scoring two baserunners







in the 5th inning and lined a single in the 7th inning. Philadelphia totaled







9 on the afternoon.















Cain(10-8) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 1 run. Willis







Hudlin(5-9) was given the loss. 'I felt great out there today' Foxx said.







'I was seeing the ball perfectly, and I was right on it with my swing.

In a thrilling finish the Chicago White Sox won in dramatic fashion coming







back to beat the Washington Nationals by the count of 6 to 5.















Chicago erupted with the game winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning







with 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. After an out was recorded, Ed Madjeski







started the attack as he lined a one-base hit. One out later, George







Caithamer stepped up to the plate and he stroked a single. Evar Swanson then







doubled which scored a run. Marty Hopkins was up next and he drew a walk.







Al Simmons stepped into the box and doubled giving Chicago the victory and







sending the 2,108 home-town fans home happy. A wild and woolly affair, this







game saw the lead change 5 times.















Phil Gallivan(1-6) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory.







Earl Whitehill(13-6) was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings







allowing 14 hits and no walks.
