Jim Weaver pitched a complete game at Baker Bowl where the Chicago Cubs beat



the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 7 to 3.







Babe Herman* enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smashed a solo-shot out of



the park (his 14th of the season) in the 5th inning, doubled bringing in a



run in the 7th inning and doubled in the 9th inning. Chicago banged out 15



on the afternoon.







Weaver(4-6) got the victory, allowing 3 runs for the game. Curt Davis(8-9)



took the loss. He was touched for 13 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.







The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 50-37. With the loss Philadelphia



now has a record of 37-50.

Kiki Cuyler had 4 hits and 5 RBI and Bill Lee hurled a fine complete game



shutout as the Chicago Cubs man-handled the Philadelphia Phillies - the final



score was 13 to 0.







Cuyler led the offense for Chicago. He stroked a base-hit plating a run in



the 4th inning, tripled scoring two baserunners in the 5th inning, lined a



single in the 8th inning and laced a base-knock which was good for two runs



in the 9th inning. Chicago kept the scorekeepers busy in the 8th inning when



they had 4 runs on 5 hits and the 9th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits. Chicago



managed 20 in their victory.







Lee(8-6) was credited with the shutout. Phil Collins(9-7) was hit with the



loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 14 hits and 3 walks in



7 innings.

Carl Hubbell had a strong outing and he had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Polo



Grounds where the New York Giants beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 9



to 0.







Hubbell(15-5) was tremendous on the mound for New York. He allowed only 4



hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. New York managed 12 in their victory.







Allyn Stout(2-5) ended up with the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his



6 and 2/3 innings of work. When questioned about his counterpart after the



game, Stout was lavish in his praise, 'It was obvious very early on that we



were going to be in for a long night. Hubbell brought his 'A' game with him



- he had good stuff and was able to spot it perfectly. He probably only made



one or two bad pitches the entire game!

In a close game the Pittsburgh Pirates got by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 10



innings by the score of 4 to 2.







The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Finally, Pittsburgh pulled the



game out in the 10th inning. Gus Suhr led off and he doubled. After an out



was recorded, Tommy Thevenow stepped in and he laced a base-hit resulting in



a run. Tom Padden then ripped a base-knock. Ralph Birkofer followed and he



hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. Brooklyn was set down



quietly in the bottom of the 10th.







The victory went to Birkofer(7-7) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Dutch



Leonard(7-3) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings allowing



3 hits and no walks.







ST. LOUIS AT BOSTON

Chick Fullis had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the



Boston Braves 11 to 2 at Braves Field.







Boston was unable to claim the lead after St. Louis went ahead in the top of



the 2nd inning scoring 2 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Rip Collins led off the



inning for St. Louis when he stroked a base-hit. After an out was recorded,



Fullis came up and he slapped a single. After another out, Bill Hallahan



came to the plate and slapped a one-base hit bringing in a run. Burgess



Whitehead stepped in and he lined a single scoring the final run of the



inning. St. Louis dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different



innings.







Hallahan(6-6) went 7 innings allowing no runs for the win. The losing pitcher



was Ed Brandt(6-12). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 14 hits and 3 walks in



5 and 1/3 innings.
