NEWSPAPER GAME STORIES FOR 1934 National League Date: 7/21/1934

CINCINNATI AT NEW YORK

Reds............ 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 1 4 1

Giants.......... 0 0 2 0 2 0 3 0 - 7 12 0

Win:Parmelee(3-2) Loss:Johnson(5-9)

Homeruns- W.Schulmerich(3rd)

Roy Parmelee had a strong outing as the New York Giants outscored the

Cincinnati Reds 7 to 1.

New York jumped on top to stay in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they

tallied 2 runs on 4 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. New

York had 12 hits for the afternoon.

Parmelee(3-2) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Si Johnson(5-9)

suffered the loss. He allowed 10 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Bob O'Farrell lamented, 'Parmelee was really aggressive today. He kept coming

after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept sitting our guys down one after

another - like so many bowling pins!'

ST. LOUIS AT BOSTON

Cardinals....... 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 9 2

Braves.......... 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 1 7 2

Win:Carleton(12-5) Loss:Rhem(4-5)

Tex Carleton allowed Frankie Frisch to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete

game at Braves Field where the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Boston Braves 3

to 1.

Carleton(12-5) was very good in the win. He allowed only 7 hits and 2 walks

in 9 innings. Boston had a chance to come back in the 9th but they came up

short.

Flint Rhem(4-5) was the loser. Bill McKechnie was clearly disappointed after

the game. 'It was a manager's nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have

had this one.'
