NEWSPAPER GAME STORIES FOR 1934 National League Date: 7/20/1934

CHICAGO AT PHILADELPHIA

Win:Moore(2-1) Loss:Malone(7-6)

Homeruns- D.Camilli(7th), K.Davis(3rd)

Kiddo Davis cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and Euel Moore allowed Jimmie Wilson

to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game as the Philadelphia Phillies

defeated the Chicago Cubs by the score of 8 to 1 at Baker Bowl.

In the 2nd inning Philadelphia went on top for good scoring a single run on 2

hits. Dolph Camilli smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 7th of the

season). Philadelphia finished with 13 hits in the victory.

The victory went to Moore(2-1) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Pat

Malone(7-6) was the loser. He was touched for 9 hits and 3 walks in 6

innings.

CINCINNATI AT NEW YORK

Reds............ 0 0 0 2 0 0 2 0 0 - 4 5 0

The New York Giants nipped the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 4 at Polo Grounds in a

hard fought contest.

Hal Schumacher(9-8) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He allowed only 5

hits and 1 walk in 8 innings. The Cincinnati batters went down meekly in the

9th.

Schumacher got help from Carl Hubbell who was credited with his 1st save.

Paul Derringer(7-10) was given the loss. He allowed a few too many

baserunners giving up 11 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

PITTSBURGH AT BROOKLYN

The Brooklyn Dodgers had very little trouble at Ebbetts Field downing the

Pittsburgh Pirates. The score was 7 to 2.

Brooklyn started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of

the first as they scored 5 runs on 4 base hits. That early scoring was all

that Tom Zachary(3-6) needed. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd

inning.

Bill Swift(6-5) was the loser. He pitched 2/3 of an inning and surrendered 4

hits and 2 walks.

ST. LOUIS AT BOSTON

Homeruns- P.Whitney(8th)

Pinky Whitney had 4 hits and Bob Smith tossed a complete game as the Boston

Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals in 10 innings by a score of 3 to 2.

Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Boston

pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Smith slapped a single. After

another out, Buck Jordan was the next batter, but he struck out. Wally

Berger then delivered a one-base hit. Hal Lee stepped in and he hit a single

making Boston the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration.

Boston banged out 11 on the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Smith(3-2) who allowed 2 runs for the game. Dizzy

Dean(10-8) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 11 hits in 9 and 2/3
