Fred Fitzsimmons came through with a solid 9 innings as the New York Giants

defeated the Chicago Cubs by the score of 6 to 1 at Polo Grounds.



New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner. New York

managed 7 in their victory.



The victory was credited to Fitzsimmons(12-6) who went the distance, allowing

1 run. The losing pitcher was Guy Bush(8-6). He gave up 5 runs and 6 hits in

7 innings.



The New York ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 50-35. With the

loss, Chicago has a record of 4-6 lately, 49-36 overall.

Harlin Pool had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the

Philadelphia Phillies 10 to 9 at Baker Bowl.



Cincinnati took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning as they scored

2 runs on 3 base hits. Philadelphia had a chance in the 9th but they came up

short.



Benny Frey(3-9) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings and

allowing 7 runs. Ted Kleinhans earned his 1st save. The loss was charged to

Cy Moore(2-7). He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3

innings.



'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Frey said.

Larry French pitched a complete game as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the

Boston Braves by a score of 3 to 2 at Braves Field.



The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the top of the 8th inning. After

two were out Gus Suhr lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 9th of the season).

Pittsburgh banged out 10 on the afternoon.



The victory went to French(10-7) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Fred

Frankhouse(9-10) was charged with the loss. He pitched 9 innings and

surrendered 10 hits and 1 walk.



Pittsburgh now has a record of 45-34. With the loss, the Boston ballclub's

record is 34-50, worst in the league.

Huck Betts(5-7) allowed 1 run in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the victory.

Ben Cantwell was credited with his 1st save. Ed Holley(3-6) was the losing

pitcher.



With this win, Boston has a 35-50 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With

the loss Pittsburgh now has a record of 45-35.

Bill Delancey had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Bill Walker was able to finish what he

started and was credited with a complete game at Ebbetts Field where the St.

Louis Cardinals beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 10 to 2.



St. Louis took the lead for good in the 2nd inning when they tallied 2 runs on

2 hits. St. Louis finished with 14 hits in the victory.



Walker(4-2) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Johnny Babich(0-5)

absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 5
