Tigers.......... 1 0 0 0 0 0 3 0 - 4 10 0

Win:Fischer(5-1) Loss:Stewart(3-9) Save:Marberry(1st)

Center fielder Gee Walker had 4 hits at Navin Field where the Detroit Tigers

beat the Washington Nationals 4 to 2.

Detroit scored 3 runs in the 7th inning with the help of 3 hits. The key

at-bat was by Goose Goslin who electrified Navin Field when he banged out a

single which was good for two runs. Detroit out-hit Washington for the game,

10 hits to 6.

The victory was credited to Carl Fischer(5-1) who went 7 innings, allowing 2

runs. Firpo Marberry was credited with his 1st save. Lefty Stewart(3-9)

suffered the loss. He was touched for 10 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings.

BOSTON AT CHICAGO

Red Sox......... 1 0 1 0 0 0 2 1 0 - 5 10 1

White Sox....... 0 0 0 1 0 0 1 1 0 - 3 8 1

Win:Ferrell(7-2) Loss:Tietje(3-7)

Homeruns- R.Johnson(3rd), L.Lary(3rd)

Wes Ferrell tossed a complete game and Roy Johnson jacked one out of the

ballyard as the Boston Red Sox topped the Chicago White Sox by a score of 5

to 3 at Comiskey Park.

Ferrell(7-2) pitched well for Boston in their victory. He went 9 innings

allowing 8 hits and 2 walks. Boston finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Les Tietje(3-7) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 8 hits in 7

innings.

NEW YORK AT CLEVELAND

Yankees......... 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 7 0

Indians......... 0 1 0 1 0 3 0 0 - 5 10 2

Win:Hildebrand(7-7) Loss:Broaca(5-2) Save:Winegarner(2nd)

First baseman Hal Trosky had 2 base hits as the Cleveland Indians beat the New

York Yankees by a score of 5 to 1.

In the bottom of the 4th inning Cleveland went on top for good scoring one

runner. For the game Cleveland out-hit New York 10 to 7.

The win was credited to Oral Hildebrand(7-7) who went 6 innings allowing 1

run. Ralph Winegarner recorded his 2nd save. Johnny Broaca(5-2) ended up

with the loss.

PHILADELPHIA AT ST. LOUIS

Athletics....... 2 1 0 0 1 0 2 1 3 - 10 18 1

Browns.......... 2 0 0 0 2 0 0 0 8 - 12 9 3

Win:McAfee(2-1) Loss:Vaughn(0-1)

Homeruns- J.Foxx-2(32nd), R.Hornsby(3rd)

Left fielder Roy Pepper had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Browns

rallied impressively to win in dramatic style over Philadelphia Athletics, 12

to 10.

St. Louis won the game with an offensive outburst in the bottom of the 9th

inning when they exploded for 8 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was

provided by Rogers Hornsby who made the crowd come alive when he launched a

rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam homerun (his 3rd of the season).

Due to a poorly pitched ballgame, scoring in 6 different innings was still

not enough for Philadelphia to come away with the victory.

Bill McAfee(2-1) allowed 4 runs in 2 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the

victory. Roy Vaughn(0-1) was the loser in relief. McAfee and Pepper were

really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind

victory. As Hornsby noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's

attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys

- it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
