Schoolboy Rowe was able to finish what he started and was credited with a



complete game as the Detroit Tigers defeated the New York Yankees by the



score of 4 to 3 at Navin Field.







Detroit jumped on top of New York in the bottom of the 6th inning scoring one



runner utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Goose Goslin



doubled. After another out, Billy Rogell stepped in and he slapped a



one-base hit scoring the run. The New York offense proved no trouble in the



9th.







Rowe(10-3) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Johnny



Murphy(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He pitched 8 innings giving up 6 hits



and 2 walks.

Gordon Rhodes went the distance at Sportsman's Park as the Boston Red Sox beat



the St. Louis Browns 10 to 3.







Billy Werber was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he



provided much of the offense for the visitors. He emptied the bases with a



Grand Slam homerun (his 11th of the season) in the 4th inning and banged out



a single in the 6th inning. Boston rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.







Rhodes(7-10) allowed 3 runs on the game. Ivy Andrews(2-7) was the loser. He



was touched for 9 hits and 3 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings. Boston now has a



record of a league leading 47-33. With the loss, the St. Louis ballclub's



record is 26-47.

George Blaeholder tossed a shutout at Sportsman's Park where the St. Louis



Browns beat the Boston Red Sox by the score of 6 to 0.







Blaeholder(7-8) gave St. Louis a solid outing. He was stingy on the mound,



allowing just 5 hits and 5 walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 5.19 to



4.78. St. Louis managed 9 in their victory.







Rube Walberg(7-2) was given the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and



5 walks in 6 innings.

Les Tietje pitched a complete game and Zeke Bonura had 4 hits and 2 RBI at



Comiskey Park where the Chicago White Sox beat the Philadelphia Athletics 12



to 3.







Bonura had a good day at the plate. He doubled scoring a run in the 1st



inning, laced a one-base hit in the 3rd inning, hit a single in the 7th



inning and ripped a solo home run (his 17th of the season) in the 8th inning.



Chicago totaled 17 on the afternoon.







Tietje(3-6) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Al Benton(7-6)



took the loss. Chicago scored big getting 9 runs off him in 6 and 1/3



innings.

Bob Johnson cracked 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI and Johnny Marcum tossed a



complete game as the Philadelphia Athletics ballclub embarrassed the Chicago



White Sox by the count of 13 to 3.







Johnson provided much of the offense. He stroked a one-base hit plating a run



in the 1st inning, smashed a solo-shot out of the park in the 5th inning and



blasted a solo shot (his 26th of the season) in the 7th inning. Philadelphia



dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.







Marcum(9-5) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Phil Gallivan(0-6)



was charged with the loss. He was unable to control the Philadelphia offense



and allowed 11 hits and 4 walks in 6 and 1/3 innings.

trouble in the bottom of the 9th.







Willis Hudlin(5-7) was hit with the loss. He allowed 7 hits and 3 walks in 9



innings.

First baseman Hal Trosky left the yard and had 4 RBI and Monte Pearson



completed the game without help from the bullpen at League Park as the



Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Nationals by the count of 4 to

Cleveland had the game winning rally in the 8th inning scoring 3 runs on 3



hits. Earl Averill opened up the inning nicely when he slapped a single.



Joe Vosmik followed and he drew a walk. Trosky then belted a three-run homer



(his 13th of the season). Cleveland had a total of 9 hits for the game.







Pearson(11-6) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. Tommy Thomas(5-4)



absorbed the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
