The game started off with Boston taking the lead in the first scoring a single















run. Boston rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon.































Brandt(6-10) lasted until the end allowing 3 runs for the win. Pat Malone(6-5)















absorbed the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 4 walks in 8















innings.

walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Cincinnati had a chance in the 9th but they came















up short.































Dutch Leonard recorded his 1st save. Larry Benton(0-1) was charged with the















loss in relief. He surrendered 6 hits and no walks in 3 innings.































'Some losses are harder to take than others' Bob O'Farrell lamented after the















game. 'This was one of them.'

pitching duel at Polo Grounds. The Pittsburgh Pirates eventually emerged as















victors over the New York Giants by the score of 2 to 0.































Pittsburgh promptly took the lead in their half of the first with 2 runs.















Lloyd Waner got things going when he drew a walk. After an out was recorded,















Pie Traynor came up and he reached on an error. Arky Vaughan then hit a















sacrifice fly which plated a run. Gus Suhr was up next and he delivered a















one-base hit, and an error was also committed, scoring the final run of the















inning. That early scoring was all that Hoyt needed. Neither team managed















to score after the 1st inning.































Hoyt got help from Leon Chagnon who earned his 4th save.

Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but St. Louis was able to put down the

Carleton(10-5) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 4 runs. The















losing pitcher was Syl Johnson(2-3) in relief.































'He gutted it out' Frankie Frisch said of Carleton. 'I was very impressed by
