Homeruns- J.Cronin(5th)
Joe Cronin lofted one into the 'cheap seats' as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Detroit Tigers 5 to 2 at Navin Field.
Tommy Thomas(5-3) pitched a fine game. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 7 and
2/3 innings. Washington finished with 11 hits while Detroit ended up with 8.
Thomas was helped out by Jack Russell who recorded his 4th save. Luke
Hamlin(1-3) was given the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 7 hits in 7
innings.
NEW YORK AT CLEVELAND
Yankees......... 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 0 3 - 4 9 0
Indians......... 0 0 0 2 4 0 0 0 - 6 9 1
Win:Brown(4-7) Loss:Murphy(5-5) Save:Bean(2nd)
Homeruns- B.Ruth(8th), B.Dickey(6th)
In a tight game it was the Cleveland Indians 6, the New York Yankees 4 at
League Park.
New York never recovered after Cleveland took the lead in the 4th inning
scoring 2 runners on 3 hits. The big moment was provided by Hal Trosky who
made the Cleveland fans a happy lot when he laced a base-hit scoring two
baserunners. New York threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
Lloyd Brown(4-7) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings. Belve
Bean earned his 2nd save. Johnny Murphy(5-5) absorbed the loss. He allowed
Cleveland 6 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.
Despite losing Joe McCarthy was optimistic after the game. 'We'll get over
this one. Sometimes the breaks fall your way, sometimes they don't. Any one
of a dozen little things go different, and we come out on top.'
