Dolph Camilli had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Wrigley Field as the PhiladelphiaPhillies beat the Chicago Cubs in 10 innings 5 to 3. The game was deadlocked at 3 after nine full innings. Philadelphia ended up winning it in the 10th inning. Dick Bartell started the inning off right when he banged out a single. Ethan Allen next to the plate and he laced abase-knock. After an out was recorded, Camilli came to the plate and slapped a single bringing in a run. Camilli took second on the throw. Al Todd cameup and he ripped a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning.Philadelphia had a total of 12 hits for the game. Phil Collins(6-5) got the win allowing 3 runs in 9 and 2/3 innings. Collins was helped out by Cy Moore who recorded his 1st save. Lon Warneke(10-2) was given the loss. He surrendered 5 runs and 11 hits in 9 and 2/3 innings. 'I was a little good, a little bad and a little ugly.' said Collins, 'I was just giving us a chance to win.'

Jo-Jo Moore had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Fred Fitzsimmons went the distance as the New York Giants outscored the Cincinnati Reds 7 to 2. Fitzsimmons(8-5) gave a fine effort for New York. He surrendered 8 hits and 1walk in 9 innings. New York rapped out 13 hits for the afternoon. Tony Freitas(0-3) took the loss. He surrendered 11 hits and 1 walk in 7innings.





Dodgers Top Pirates Yet Again With Late Attack

Right fielder Buzz Boyle had 4 hits and Tom Zachary went the distance at Forbes Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to3. Zachary(1-3) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 14 hits and no walks in 9innings. Brooklyn rapped out 12 hits for the afternoon. Leon Chagnon(2-1) took the loss in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning and saw his ERA jump from 2.86 to 3.77.

In an great finish the St. Louis Cardinals won in dramatic fashion over the slumping Boston Braves by a score of 3 to 2 at Sportsman's Park.

St. Louis won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs using 3hits. Frankie Frisch led off and he drew a walk. Joe Medwick was next and he delivered a single. Medwick took second on the throw. Rip Collins then drew a walk to load the bases. Spud Davis followed and he ripped a base-knock scoring two teammates. Buster Mills came to the plate and delivered a base-hit giving St. Louis the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. St. Louis rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon. Flint Rhem(2-2) allowed no runs in 3 and 2/3 innings, and picked up the victory. Ed Brandt(3-7) was tagged with the loss. He allowed 8 hits and 2 walks in 8 innings.
'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Medwick noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy thereat the end!'
