In a two run game the seemingly unstoppable Detroit Tigers got by the St.



Louis Browns by the score of 5 to 3.







Detroit brought 3 runs across the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning.



Detroit totaled 9 on the afternoon. Vic Sorrell(5-6) got the win allowing 3



runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Chief Hogsett was credited with his 7th save.



Bump Hadley(4-10) suffered the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 9 walks in 7 and



2/3 innings.







With the win, Detroit continued their winning ways; their streak now stands at



7 games and counting. Mickey Cochrane was clearly happy after the game --



'Everything is clicking for us right now.'

At League Park the struggling Chicago White Sox were battered 7 to 2 by the



Cleveland Indians.







Cleveland drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning



when they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Earl



Averill who brought the crowd to their feet when he bombed a two-run dinger



(his 25th of the season). Overall Cleveland out-hit Chicago 11 to 7.







The win went to Ralph Winegarner(1-2) who allowed 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings.



Milt Gaston(4-9) was charged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings allowing 7



hits and 4 walks.

Bill Dietrich allowed just 2 hits as the Philadelphia Athletics topped the



Boston Red Sox by a score of 6 to 1 at Fenway Park.







Philadelphia did all the necessary damage in the 3rd inning when they scored 6



runs on 6 hits. That early scoring held up. Philadelphia banged out 14 on



the afternoon.







Dietrich(7-2) lasted until the end allowing 1 run for the win. Wes



Ferrell(4-2) suffered the loss. He was touched for 14 hits and 3 walks in 8



and 1/3 innings.

Red Ruffing was able to finish what he started and was credited with a



complete game at Yankee Stadium where the New York Yankees beat the



Washington Nationals 8 to 3.







New York took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 3rd inning when they



tallied 2 runs on 2 hits. The big moment was provided by Ruffing who brought



the crowd to their feet when he smacked a single bringing in two baserunners.



New York finished with 9 hits in the victory.







Ruffing(9-4) allowed 3 runs on the game. Earl Whitehill(12-5) absorbed the



loss. He surrendered 9 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings. With this win, New



York has a 37-34 record. They have been 5-5 lately. Washington has a record



of 42-33 after the loss.
