The Detroit bats were silent most of the afternoon as the Philadelphia A's quietly built a 3-0 lead going into the 7th inning stretch. Roy Mahaffey, who had kept the Tigers at bay through 6, was done and hit the showers, leaving the bullpen to mop up.
Then, like the sound of guns erupting on a distant battlefield, the Tigers' bats came alive, pounding A's reliever Al Benton mercelessly. Benton was tagged for 10 runs before giving way after only a single out.
Tigers outfielder Goose Goslin went 3 for 5, driving in 2 and scoring 3 himself. Third sacker Marv Owen also had a big day at the plate. He banged out a single in the 7thinning and hit a 'grand salami' to the delight of his teammates (his 3rd ofthe season) in the 7th inning. Detroit finished with 10 hits in the victory. Elden Auker(3-1) went 1 inning allowing no runs for the victory. AlBenton(2-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He allowed 10 runs and 5 hitsin 1/3 of an inning.

Bobo Newsom allowed Rogers Hornsby to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and right fielder Earl Clark had 3 base hits and 3 RBI as the St. Louis Browns topped the Washington Nationals by a score of 7 to 4 at Sportsman'sPark.
St. Louis had 3 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 2nd inning with thehelp of 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Rollie Hemsley whoelicited a roar from the hometown fans when he doubled bringing in twobaserunners. St. Louis finished with 11 hits in the victory.
The win was credited to Newsom(3-2) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.Lefty Stewart(2-4) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 8 hits and 2 walks in 7innings.

Red Ruffing pitched a complete game at Comiskey Park as the New York Yankees beat the Chicago White Sox by the count of 6 to 2. New York set the tone of the game in the first inning plating an isolated run, using 2 hits. New York had a total of 15 hits for the game.
The Babe, who has been in a funk this year, had three hits, raising his batting average to .240. Ruffing (4-2) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. The loss was charged to Ted Lyons(1-2). He was touched for 15 hits and 5 walks in 8 and1/3 innings.

Joe Vosmik continued his tremendous season this afternoon. He jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI while Tribe hurler Mel Harder was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game, as the Cleveland Indians outscored the Boston Red Sox 7 to 1.
Cleveland drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning, plating an isolated run on 2 hits. Cleveland banged out 13 on the afternoon. Harder(5-1) lasted until the end, allowing 1 run for the win. Lefty Grove (2-1)took the loss. He pitched 8 innings allowing 13 hits and no walks.
