Gomez tames Tigers to Avoid Sweep in Detroit

Lefty Gomez was able to finish what he started and was credited with ac omplete game. Yankee first baseman Lou Gehrig had 2 base hits and 2 RBIs as the New York Yankees beat the Detroit Tigers by a score of 5 to 2. New York jumped on top of Detroit in the top of the 6th inning when they scored 2 runs on 2 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Tony Lazzeri ,who deflated the crowd as he doubled scoring two baserunners. The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
Gomez (4-3) finished the game allowing 2 runs in the victory. Vic Sorrell (2-3)was hit with the loss. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 4 hits and 4 walks.

Harder wins 4th with complete game shutout

Mel Harder went 9 strong innings at League Park where the Cleveland Indians beat the Washington Nationals 6 to 0.
Cleveland tallied 3 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning with the help of 4 hits. Hal Trosky started the inning off right when he tripled. Frankie Pytlak next to the plate and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring a run. WillieKamm then ripped a base-knock. Harder followed and he doubled, scoring another run. After another out, Billy Knickerbocker came to the plate andslapped a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. That scoring would be all that was needed.
Cleveland banged out 12 on the afternoon. Harder (4-1) was credited with the shutout. Monte Weaver (2-4) was tagged with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 12 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings. 'Harder just dominated us' losing pitcher Weaver said. 'Hopefully we can get to him the next time around'

Jimmie Foxx hit a homerun and had 3 RBI at Comiskey Park where thePhiladelphia Athletics beat the Chicago White Sox in 10 innings by the scoreof 7 to 5.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Finally, Philadelphia pulled the game out in the 10th inning. Foxx led off and he laced a single. Lou Finney stepped into the batter's box and he drew a walk. Eric McNair then lined a base-hit to load the bases. Pinky Higgins (pictured) stepped in and he bangedout a single scoring two teammates.
Philadelphia out-hit Chicago for the game, 17 hits to 9. The victory was credited to Bill Dietrich(3-1) who went 2 innings, allowing 1 run. Tietje (1-2) took the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs and 7 hits in 4 innings.
Boston Prevails Over St. Louis, 7-3

At Sportsman's Park the Boston Red Sox put 5 runs on the scoreboard in the 4th inning and easily handled the St. Louis Browns by the score of 7 to 3. Boston took the lead off Dick Coffman in the first inning scoring one runner on 2 hits. Bill Cissell tripled. Billy Werber was next and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. St. Louis had a chance in the 9th but theycame up short. The win went to Lefty Grove(2-0) who allowed 3 runs in 8 and 2/3 innings, before yielding way to Hank Johnson to quell the Browns 9th inning rally. The loss was charged to Coffman (0-2). He was touched for 8 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
