Bill Swift was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete



game and Pie Traynor had 3 base hits and 4 RBI at Forbes Field where the



Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds by the score of 9 to



2.







Pittsburgh jumped on top to stay in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runners on 4



hits. That early run support was enough for Swift(11-9) and Pittsburgh.



Pittsburgh had 15 hits for the afternoon.







Si Johnson(8-15) ended up with the loss. He allowed 4 runs and 7 hits in 5



innings.

7 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. Neither team managed to score after the 3rd



inning.







Huck Betts(9-12) was hit with the loss. He gave up 2 runs and 8 hits in 8

The Brooklyn Dodgers nipped the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 2 at Ebbetts Field in



a hard fought contest.







Brooklyn did all the necessary damage in the 8th inning with 3 runs using 3



hits. Johnny Frederick led off and started the attack as he laced a one-base



hit. Joe Stripp followed and he laced a single. Al Lopez then singled, and



an error was also committed, driving home two runs. Tom Zachary was up next



and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. St. Louis



threatened in the 9th but Brooklyn was able to put down the rally.







The win was credited to Zachary(5-9) who went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 2



runs. Dutch Leonard gained credit for his 4th save. Dizzy Dean(20-10) was



given the loss. He was stingy with the baserunners, allowing just 4 hits and



1 walk in 8 innings.







'It wasn't my best outing, but I'll take the win' Zachary said.

Ray Benge tossed a complete game at Ebbetts Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat



the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 2.







Brooklyn claimed the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 3 runs



on 2 hits. That early scoring held up. After the 3rd inning, neither team



was able to score.







The win went to Benge(14-15) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Paul Dean(14-9)



took the loss. He gave up 6 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.







The Brooklyn ballclub's record now stands at 57-87. With the loss, St. Louis
