Ray Benge had a strong outing at Ebbetts Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat



the Chicago Cubs by the score of 3 to 1.







Brooklyn jumped on top to stay in the 2nd inning scoring one runner. After an



out was recorded, Tony Cuccinello lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 14th of



the season). Chicago threatened in the 9th but Brooklyn was able to put down



the rally.







Benge(13-15) allowed 1 run on the game. Jim Weaver(8-8) was charged with the



loss. He gave up only 2 hits and no walks in 5 innings.







When questioned about the loss, Charlie Grimm said, 'The fans got to see an



exciting game out there this afternoon. Unfortunately, we couldn't get it



done this time. Next time, though, we'll be the clubhouse with all the



smiles.'

Kiki Cuyler had 4 hits and Bill Lee carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning at



Ebbetts Field where the Chicago Cubs beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 7 to



5.







Lee(13-10) had a solid outing for Chicago. He allowed 3 hits and 2 walks in 7



and 2/3 innings. The right-handed Lee lost his chance for a no-hitter when



Len Koenecke singled with two outs in the 7th inning. Brooklyn was out-hit



by Chicago, 12 hits to 6.







Lee was helped out by Bud Tinning who recorded his 5th save. Watty Clark(2-6)



was hit with the loss. He surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings.

The Cincinnati Reds tallied 5 runs in the 7th inning and toppled the Boston



Braves by a 12 to 8 score at Braves Field.







Cincinnati jumped on top to stay in the 6th inning as they scored 4 runs on 4



base hits. The big moment was provided by Frank McCormick who helped quiet



the crowd when he tripled bringing in two baserunners. Cincinnati had 18



hits overall, while Boston had 14.







Sherman Edwards(1-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Flint



Rhem(8-11) was the losing pitcher. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2



walks in 5 and 2/3 innings.







Cincinnati now has a record of 50-87. With the loss, Boston has a record of



4-6 lately, 60-78 overall.

2,343 fans watched an exciting game at Braves Field. The Cincinnati Reds



topped the Boston Braves by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.







Cincinnati scored the deciding run in the top of the 9th inning. Chick Hafey



tripled. Harlin Pool struck out, unable to help the rally. After another



out, Adam Comorosky stepped up to the plate and he ripped a base-knock



scoring the run. Cincinnati rapped out 8 hits for the afternoon.







The victory was credited to Ray Kolp(5-4) who went 2 innings, allowing no



runs. Bob Smith(5-4) was charged with the loss in relief.

Dizzy Dean was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete



game and Joe Medwick hit 2 doubles and had 4 RBI at Polo Grounds as the



phenomenal St. Louis Cardinals beat the New York Giants by the count of 11 to



4.







Dean(20-9) pitched a solid game. He went 9 innings allowing 7 hits and no



walks. St. Louis totaled 10 on the afternoon. Roy Parmelee(7-8) ended up



with the loss. He pitched 6 and 1/3 innings giving up 5 hits and 5 walks.

the bullpen as the impressive St. Louis Cardinals topped the New York Giants



by a score of 8 to 2 at Polo Grounds.







St. Louis promptly took the lead in their half of the first when they scored 2



runs on 2 hits. St. Louis finished with 11 hits in the victory.







Dean(14-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. The losing pitcher was



Carl Hubbell(21-9). He gave up 7 runs and 10 hits in 8 innings.
