October 3rd, 1934 - NL Awards

Giants Take Lions' Share of National League Awards; Bucs do well in fielding; several Cardinals finish near top

The 1934 World Series begins today. This morning, the National League announced its awards for 1934. Despite a disappointing second place finish for the defending World Champion New York Giants, they did receive some solace in receiving most of the top awards. Pittsburgh also did well with three gold gloves. St. Louis only received one major award, but several of its players such as Dizzy Dean (Cy Young) and Rip Collins (MVP) finished a close second. Manager Frisch was also the runner up for a gold glove at second.
