Philadelphia wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they

Philadelphia finished with 12 hits in the victory.

In a dramatic ending the Brooklyn Dodgers staged a comeback and held on to win



over the New York Giants by the count of 7 to 6.







Brooklyn went ahead for good in the 2nd inning as they scored 2 runs on 4 base



hits. For the game Brooklyn out-hit New York 15 to 10.







Ray Benge(15-16) picked up the victory, allowing 5 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings.



Dutch Leonard earned the save, his 5th. Fred Fitzsimmons(24-9) was the



losing pitcher. He gave up 5 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings of work.

Jack Rothrock had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Dizzy Dean went the distance as the



streaking St. Louis Cardinals beat the slumping Cincinnati Reds by a score of



7 to 3.







St. Louis tallied 4 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning when they had 5 base



hits. The key at-bat was by Joe Medwick who brought the crowd to their feet



when he cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 16th of the season).



St. Louis rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.







Dean(23-10) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. The losing pitcher



was Si Johnson(8-16). He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 6 innings.

Bucky Walters struck out 14 batters as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the



Boston Braves 6 to 2 at Baker Bowl.







Walters(1-0) had a strong outing. He allowed just 8 hits and 1 walk in 9



innings. Philadelphia finished with 16 hits in the victory.







Flint Rhem(10-12) was charged with the loss. He was touched for 13 hits and 2



walks in 6 innings. When asked about his strikeout total for the game,



Walters offered, 'The fan's really got into it. It is fun to see them tally



up the strikeout totals up there in the stands. Fortunately, I kept them



busy this afternoon - of course, it would be all for naught without the 'W'.'

Lon Warneke tossed a complete game and Kiki Cuyler had 4 hits and 2 RBI as the



Chicago Cubs topped the Pittsburgh Pirates in 10 innings by a score of 2 to 1



at Wrigley Field.







The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. Chicago won the game in



the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Stan Hack hit a single. Augie



Galan was next and he stroked a single. Cuyler then lined a single making



Chicago the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Chicago



rapped out 9 hits for the afternoon.







The victory went to Warneke(23-8) who went the distance allowing 1 run. The



loss was charged to Larry French(16-14). He allowed 2 runs and 8 hits in 9



and 1/3 innings.

6,887 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs topped



the Pittsburgh Pirates by the slimmest of margins, 6 to 5.







Charlie Root(8-4) did the job in relief, and he got credit for the win. He



went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks. Pittsburgh threatened



in the 9th but Chicago was able to put down the rally.







Bud Tinning was credited with his 6th save. Steamboat Struss(0-1) was the



losing pitcher. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits and 4 walks.
