The dominant New York Giants defeated the floundering Brooklyn Dodgers by a

score of 8 to 5 at Ebbetts Field.



New York wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning as they scored 3

runs on 3 base hits. The key at-bat was by Bill Terry who disappointed the

partisan crowd when he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 6th of the

season). Brooklyn was out-hit by New York, 15 hits to 11.



Fred Fitzsimmons(20-7) got the win allowing 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings. Al

Smith gained credit for his 3rd save. Van Lingle Mungo(9-18) was hit with

the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.

Dizzy Dean pitched a complete game shutout and second baseman Frankie Frisch

had 2 base hits as the blistering-hot St. Louis Cardinals defeated the

Chicago Cubs by the score of 2 to 0 at Wrigley Field.



Dean(18-8) put on a good performance. He surrendered only 7 hits and 1 walk

in 9 innings. After the 4th inning, neither team was able to score.



Guy Bush(11-9) ended up with the loss. He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 8

innings. St. Louis extended their winning streak to 8 games.
