Wally Berger blasted 2 homeruns at Braves Field as the Boston Braves beat the

Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 7 to 4.

losing pitcher was Van Lingle Mungo(9-12). He served up 3 homeruns in his 7

and 2/3 innings.

Boston won for the 6th straight time. 'It seems we can't lose these days',

Bill McKechnie volunteered after the game. Then after a moment to reflect he

lamented, 'Oh great! Now I've gone and jinxed us!'

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Brooklyn ended up winning it

in the 10th inning. After an out was recorded, Joe Stripp delivered a

one-base hit. One out later, Danny Taylor stepped in and he hit a single

scoring the run. Brooklyn won despite being out-hit by Boston 14 hits to 9.

Ownie Carroll(1-2) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory.

hits. That early scoring was all that Lee(9-6) needed. Neither team managed

to score after the 4th inning.

The loss was charged to Tony Freitas(3-8). 'Lee took our guys to school' Bob

O'Farrell said. 'Too bad he doesn't pitch for us - it would make my job a

Carl Hubbell allowed Bill Terry to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game

as the seemingly unstoppable New York Giants topped the Philadelphia Phillies

in 10 innings by a score of 5 to 2 at Polo Grounds.

The score was tied at 2 after nine. New York came out the victor in the 10th

inning. Jo-Jo Moore started the inning off right when he doubled. Hughie

Critz stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Terry then drew a

Field as the St. Louis Cardinals, running on all cylinders, ripped the

Pittsburgh Pirates by a large 18 to 2 margin.

Collins was in a groove all day. The Pittsburgh fans hated to see him

approaching the batter's box. He doubled which was good for two runs in the

1st inning, doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 4th inning and blasted

a two-run home run (his 25th of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis lit

up the scoreboard in the 1st inning with 6 runs on 6 hits and the 6th inning

when they had 4 runs on 5 hits. St. Louis banged out 23 on the afternoon.
