Boston drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning

plating an isolated run utilizing 2 base hits. Philadelphia went down

without a fight in the bottom of the 9th.

Ferrell(11-3) lasted until the end allowing 2 runs for the win. The loss was

charged to Joe Cascarella(6-6). He allowed 7 hits and 6 walks in 7 innings.

score of 20 to 0 at Comiskey Park.

Hale enjoyed a great day at the plate. He stroked a base-hit which was good

for two runs in the 1st inning, lifted one out of the park for a two run home

run (his 10th of the season) in the 4th inning, tripled plating a run in the

5th inning and tripled which plated a run in the 8th inning. Cleveland kept

the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 5 hits

and the 7th inning when they had 5 runs on 3 hits. Cleveland kept the

pressure on throughout the contest as they scored in 6 different innings.

For Pearson(14-7) it was his 6th shutout this year. Sam Jones(8-11) suffered

the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 2 walks in 4 and 1/3

innings.

Red Ruffing pitched a complete game and Lou Gehrig collected 4 RBI with one

swing of the bat at Griffith Stadium as the New York Yankees belted the

Washington Nationals by the count of 15 to 4.

Gehrig had a big day against Washington. He launched a rocket-shot out of the

park for a Grand Slam homerun (his 32nd of the season) in the 5th inning and

laced a base-knock knocking in a run in the 5th inning. New York bats were

hot in the 5th inning with 12 runs on 10 hits. New York finished with 21

hits in the victory.

The win was credited to Ruffing(10-8) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.

Earl Whitehill(13-9) was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around,

1st inning, delivered a single in the 4th inning, singled knocking in a run

in the 5th inning and lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 12th of the season)

in the 7th inning. St. Louis bats were very productive in the 5th inning
