Hank Greenberg smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the Detroit Tigers ballclub



embarrassed the Cleveland Indians by the count of 13 to 0.







Greenberg enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the



1st inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 14th of the season) in the 8th



inning. Offensively, Detroit was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate



innings.







Luke Hamlin(2-3) got the win allowing no runs in 7 innings. Monte



Pearson(14-8) was hit with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 15

Johnny Allen carried a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the New York Yankees



defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 3 to 1 at Fenway



Park.







Allen(5-2) dominated Boston hitters. He allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9



innings lowering his ERA from 4.43 to 3.86. The right-handed Allen had his



no-hit bid broken up by Lyn Lary who singled with nobody out in the 6th



inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.







The losing pitcher was Wes Ferrell(11-4). Bucky Harris lamented, 'Allen was



really aggressive today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not.



he kept sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'

George Blaeholder(7-13) ended up with the loss. With this win, Chicago has a



39-70 record. They have been 5-5 lately. St. Louis has a record of 42-61
