Greenberg enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st inning and bombed a two-run dinger (his 14th of the season) in the 8th inning. Offensively, Detroit was a juggernaut. They scored in 6 separate innings. Luke Hamlin(2-3) got the win allowing no runs in 7 innings. Monte Pearson(14-8) was hit with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 15 hits and 5 walks in 7 innings. Allen(5-2) dominated Boston hitters. He allowed only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 4.43 to 3.86. The right-handed Allen had his no-hit bid broken up by Lyn Lary who singled with nobody out in the 6th inning. The teams had been locked in a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.
