Pirates Announce Shakeup; Gibson Out, Traynor In as SkipperThe Pittsburgh Pirates announced today that they were releasing manager George Gibson, and that his replacement would be long time third baseman Pie Traynor. Ironically, the move comes after the Pirates won two games from the first place Giants. Overall, however, the Pirates are only 25-26, and have slipped from third to fifty place in recent weeks. Team owner, Florence Dreyfuss, the widow of the late long time owner Tom Dreyfuss (1900-1932), could not be reached for comment.
