Shortstop Arky Vaughan had 3 base hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates won a dandyat Forbes Field over the New York Giants, 4 to 3. The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the 9th inning. After an out wasrecorded, Earl Grace drew a walk. Fred Lindstrom stepped up next and hetripled making Pittsburgh the victors to the delight of the home townfaithful. Pittsburgh had 11 hits overall, while New York had 8. The win went to Waite Hoyt(4-5) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. AlSmith(1-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. He pitched 3 innings allowing 1hit and 2 walks.

Joe Stripp had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Van Lingle Mungo went the distance atCrosley Field where the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds 6 to1. Brooklyn took the lead for good in the 2nd inning plating an isolated runutilizing 2 base hits. Brooklyn finished with 11 hits in the victory. The victory went to Mungo(8-7) who went the distance allowing 1 run. TedKleinhans(1-2) was hit with the loss. He got hit pretty hard, allowing 9hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings. Brooklyn continued their winnings ways improving their record to 31-23. Theyare 8-2 in their last ten games. With the loss Cincinnati now has a recordof 17-33, worst in the league.

Boston won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 2 runs using 4 hits.Tommy Thompson led off and started the rally when he smacked a single. HalLee came to the plate and doubled. Pinky Whitney then doubled driving hometwo runs. For the game Boston out-hit Chicago 15 to 5. Fred Frankhouse(6-6) got the win allowing 3 runs in 8 innings. Bob Smithearned his 4th save. The losing pitcher was Lynn Nelson(0-2) in relief.

Paul Dean pitched a complete game in the opener and first baseman Rip Collins went yard andhad 3 RBI as the seemingly unstoppable St. Louis Cardinals defeated thePhiladelphia Phillies by the score of 10 to 1 at Sportsman's Park. St. Louis jumped on top of Philadelphia in the 2nd inning scoring 2 runners on5 hits. That was all Dean(5-3) needed. St. Louis managed 15 in theirvictory. Curt Davis(5-6) absorbed the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 7 runsin 3 and 2/3 innings.
In the nigtcap, though, Phil Collins closed the door on St. Louis as the Phillies defeated the Cardinals 13 to 10. Bill Lohrman(3-0) pitched well enough in relief to get the win. He went 1 and2/3 innings allowing 3 hits and 1 walk. Lohrman got help from Collins whopitched great and earned his 1st save. Jesse Haines(4-1) suffered the loss in relief. By giving up 4 runs in 3innings his ERA increased from 3.74 to 4.17.

Bill Lee tossed a complete game in game two as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Boston Braves7 to 3 at Wrigley Field. Lee(5-2) gave Chicago a solid outing. He surrendered 8 hits and 3 walks in 9innings. Chicago had 15 hits for the afternoon. Leo Mangum(1-1) was the loser. He surrendered 7 runs and 15 hits in 7 and 2/3innings.
