BOSTON AT PHILADELPHIA Braves.......... 0 0 0 3 0 0 0 0 0 - 3 7 1 Phillies........ 1 0 0 1 0 0 1 0 1 - 4 11 2 Win:Davis(7-7) Loss:Brandt(5-10) Curt Davis allowed Jimmie Wilson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Baker Bowl as the Philadelphia Phillies won a thriller over the Boston Braves in, 4 to 3. Philadelphia scored the deciding run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Lou Chiozza drew a walk. Ethan Allen stepped into the batter's box and he delivered a base-hit. Allen took second on the throw. Johnny Moore then would hit into a fielders choice resulting in an exciting win for Philadelphia and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Philadelphia had a total of 11 hits for the game. The victory went to Davis(7-7) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Ed Brandt(5-10) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 run and 1 hit in 1 and 1/3 innings. This win by Philadelphia continues their recent hot streak. In their last ten games, they have a record of 8-2. For the season, they are 32-41. With this loss, Boston has a 4-6 record of late, 28-44 overall. Brooklyn won the game with a rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs using 3 hits. Johnny Frederick led off and keyed the rally when he slapped a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Sam Leslie came up and he drew a walk. One out later, Al Lopez stepped up to the plate and he slapped a base-hit knocking in a run. Lonny Frey stepped in and he banged out a single making Brooklyn victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times. The win was credited to Phil Page(1-0) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Hi Bell(0-2) was the losing pitcher in relief. 'Now there is a lesson in perseverance for you,' Stripp noted. 'It was looking pretty dim there for a while, but we just kept plugging away and it really paid off in spades! And it was great to see the crowd go crazy there at the end!'
