Tigers Start Fast, Prevail in 7-1 Win

Vic Sorrell completed the game without help from the bullpen and Charlie Gehringer lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI as the DetroitTigers topped the Chicago White Sox by a score of 7 to 1 at NavinField. Sorrell(4-4) gave Detroit a solid outing. He gave up just 6 hits and 1 walkin 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 4.83 to 4.33. Detroit totaled 12 onthe afternoon. The losing pitcher was Whit Wyatt(3-1). He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 6 innings.






Yankees Beat A's, 3-0
A's manage only 4 hits all afternoon

Johnny Broaca went 9 strong innings as the New York Yankees topped thePhiladelphia Athletics by a score of 3 to 0 at Yankee Stadium. New York came up with 2 runs in the 6th inning with the help of 3 hits. MyrilHoag led off and started the attack as he drew a walk. Two outs later BenChapman came to the plate and reached on an error. Tony Lazzeri then hit asingle. Bill Dickey followed and he laced a base-knock which scored a run.Frank Crosetti stepped into the box and doubled scoring the final run of theinning. Philadelphia was retired without difficulty in the 9th. Broaca(1-0) went the distance for the shutout. Al Benton(3-3) ended up withthe loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run inhis 7 innings of work. 'All of my pitches were working today,' Broaca said. 'I felt really good out there, and heck, I think I could have gone longer.'





Indians Win Easy Over Browns at Home
Pearson wins complete game shutout

Left fielder Bob Seeds had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Monte Pearson delivered 9 solid innings as the Cleveland Indians topped the St. Louis Browns by a scoreof 5 to 0 at League Park. Pearson(6-4) was virtually untouchable. He surrendered only 4 hits and 2walks in 9 innings reducing his ERA from 3.39 to 3.01. Cleveland rapped out10 hits for the afternoon. Ivy Andrews(1-5) was the losing pitcher. He surrendered 2 runs and 7 hits in6 innings. Cleveland now has a record of 22-21. Rogers Hornsby was unhappywith his club's recent performance. 'We can't keep losing games' he said.'It gets to be embarrassing after a while.'




Red Sox Start Hot, Hold On for Win
Grove gets 4th win of season

Carl Reynolds had 2 base hits at Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sox beat the Washington Nationals 4 to 3. Washington surrendered all of the runs Boston needed in the 1st inning as theyscored 4 runs on 5 base hits. That was all the runs Lefty Grove(4-2) needed. Boston had a total of 8 hits for the game. Rube Walberg was credited with his 2nd save. The losing pitcher was MonteWeaver(6-5). With this win, Boston has a 26-21 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With the loss, Washington has a record of 7-3 lately, 29-20 overall.
