Tigers Slam at Sportsman's Park; Withstand Furious Browns Comeback
Hornsby 3 run pinch hit homer thrills Browns' fans despite loss

Hank Greenberg (pictured) left the yard and had 3 RBI at Sportsman's Park where the Detroit Tigers beat the St. Louis Browns by the score of 9 to 6.

Once again, the Tigers were only able to escape with a win after a fierce Browns' comeback. Down 8-1, Browns' manager Rogers Hornsby picked up a bat and hit a three run home run off reliever Elden Auker to cap a 4 run Browns 8th.
St. Louis was unable to recover after Detroit went ahead in the top of the 3rd inning when they scored 3 runs on 2 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Greenberg who quieted the home crowd when he doubled which was good for two runs. Detroit had a total of 10 hits for the game.

The win went to Carl Fischer(3-0) who allowed 4 runs in 7 innings. The loss was charged to Ivy Andrews(1-4). He allowed Detroit 7 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings of work. With this win, Detroit has a 22-17 record. They have been 7-3 lately. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, St. Louis is 2-8 lately and 10-27, worst in the league on the year.

The Washington Nationals cruised to a 6 to 1 victory over the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Washington came up with 4 runs in the 6th inning when they had 5 base hits.
They would hold up as the winning runs. Washington had 15 hits for the afternoon while New York had 7.

The win was credited to Monte Weaver (pictured) (5-4) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run.
Russ Van Atta(1-4) was given the loss. He pitched 5 and 2/3 innings allowing 11 hits and 1 walk.

Sox Win in 12 in Cleveland

At League Park the Chicago White Sox easily handled the Cleveland Indians in 12 innings by the score of 6 to 2.

The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Chicago came out on top in the 12th inning. The highlight belonged to Mule Haas who disappointed the partisan crowd when he laced a one-base hit bringing in two baserunners. Although they lost, Cleveland did out-hit Chicago 12 to 8.

The victory was credited to Sam Jones(3-5) who went 11 innings, allowing 2 runs. Ralph Winegarner(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. Chicago scored big getting 4 runs off him in 2 innings.

The Chicago ballclub's record now stands at 16-21. With the loss Cleveland now has a record of 17-18.
