Detroit Holds on in 8-7 Win in St. Louis
Browns fall short in 9th inning rally

Charlie Gehringer connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated the St. Louis Browns by a score of 8 to 7 at Sportsman'sPark.


Gehringer had a big day at the plate. He doubled resulting in a run in the 1st inning, smashed a two-run homer (his 4th of the season) in the 3rd inning and delivered a one-base hit in the 5th inning. Both teams ended up with 11on the afternoon.


Elden Auker (4-2) went 5 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. GeorgeBlaeholder(2-5) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 6 runs and 8 hits in 7 innings.


White Sox win in Dramatic Fashion Over Tribe

Right fielder Stan "Frenchy" Bordagaray (pictured) had 4 hits and 3 RBI at League Park as the Chicago White Sox won in dramatic fashion coming back to beat the ClevelandIndians by the count of 8 to 6.

Chicago had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs using 4 hits. Zeke Bonura opened up the inning nicely when he delivered a base-hit. Al Simmons stepped up to the plate and he delivered a single. Luke Appling then drew a walk to load the bases. Jimmy Dykes came up and he stroked a single, scoring two baserunners. After an out was recorded, Ed Madjeski stepped in and he lined a one-base hit scoring the final run of the inning. Clevelandwent down quietly in the bottom of the 9th.

Whit Wyatt(3-0) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 and 2/3 innings. Ralph Winegarner(0-1) was the loser in relief. Dykes was very happy after the game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our guys just wouldn't give up. And did you see the fans - one minute they're laughing and screaming down all sorts of unprintable stuff at our guys - the next minute -SILENCE! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win this afternoon!'

Welch goes the distance for third win

Roy Johnson had 2 base hits and 2 RBI and Johnny Welch completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Boston Red Sox topped the Philadelphia Athletics by a score of 3 to 1 at Shibe Park. Boston set the tone of the game in the first inning, scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. Boston banged out 14 on the afternoon. Welch (3-0) allowed 1 run on the game. The losing pitcher was Sugar Cain(4-4). He got hit hard, allowing 12 hits and 5 walks in 8 innings.
