Collins Rips Pirates as Cards Triumph 9-3

First baseman Rip Collins had 4 hits and scored 3 times and Tex Carletonallowed Frankie Frisch to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at ForbesField where the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the scoreof 9 to 3.

Carleton(5-3) earned his pay with a solid performance for St. Louis. He allowed 6 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. St. Louis had 17 hits for theafternoon. Waite Hoyt(1-5) was given the loss in relief. With this win, St. Louis has a 23-19 record. They have been 6-4 lately. Pittsburgh has a record of 19-20 after the loss.


Clark Pitches Giants to 7th Straight Victory

At the Polo Grounds the sizzling New York Giants outscored the Philadelphia Phillies 4 to 1.

Mel Ott enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He smacked a three-run homer (his 11th of the season) in the 1st inning and tripled in the 7th inning. Philadelphia had 10 hits in the game while New York had 4, but New York had the more timely hits.

Watty Clark(2-1) (pictured) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run. Dolf Luque got the save, his 3rd. Curt Davis (4-4) was charged with the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up only 4 hits and 1 walk. New York won for the 7th straight time. Bill Terry held court after the contest, 'Everything is coming up aces right now. It is important for our team to ride this wave as long as we can. Every win is important.'

Center fielder Chick Hafey had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Crosley Field as theCincinnati Reds won in their last at-bat beating the Chicago Cubs by thecount of 5 to 4 at Cincinnati's Crosley Field (pictured).

Cincinnati scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. Sparky Adams stroked a base-hit. Tony Piet stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Hafey then reached on an error. After another out, HarlinPool came up and he lashed a single giving Cincinnati the win much to thedelight of the home town crowd. For the game Cincinnati out-hit Chicago 13 to 7.


The win went to Joe Shaute (2-3) who allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings. PatMalone (4-4) was the loser. He allowed 13 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 2/3 innings.


Dodgers Turn Up Heat on Braves' Pen in 8-3 Win

Third baseman Tony Cuccinello had 3 base hits and 3 RBI and Dutch Leonardpitched a complete game as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the Boston Braves by the score of 8 to 3 at Braves Field.

Brooklyn took the lead for good in the 6th inning with 3 runs utilizing 2 base hits. After an out was recorded, Sam Leslie initiated the scoring spurt whenhe slapped a base-hit. Len Koenecke came to the plate and drew a walk. Cuccinello then doubled, and an error was also committed, emptying the bases.

Brooklyn had 12 hits for the afternoon. Leonard(5-0), allowing 3 runs for the game, picked up the victory. Jumbo Jim Elliott(2-2) was charged with the loss. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks.
