426 fans were treated to a fine game at Baker Bowl as only one run separated
the combatants at game's end. The Chicago Cubs won by the slimmest of
margins, 4 to 3.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. Chicago was victorious in the 10th
inning. After an out was recorded, Kiki Cuyler lined a one-base hit. Billy
Herman stepped up next and he stroked a base-hit, and an error was also
committed. Babe Herman* then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Chicago
had a total of 9 hits for the game.

Charlie Root(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Euel Moore(6-10) was tagged with the loss in relief. He was pinned
with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in his 2 and 1/3 innings of
work.

Carl Hubbell went 9 strong innings and left fielder Jo-Jo Moore had 2 base
hits as the strong New York Giants outscored the woeful Cincinnati Reds 1 to
0.

New York took the lead off Paul Derringer in the first inning scoring a single
run utilizing 2 base hits. Moore laced a single. Hughie Critz followed and
he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bill Terry then stroked a one-base hit
scoring the run. That was all the offense they were to need. Cincinnati
went down without a fight in the 9th.

It was the 9th shutout of the year for Hubbell(22-9). Derringer(10-16)
absorbed the loss. He gave up only 3 hits and 1 walk in 7 innings.

'Hubbell was the man today,' Terry said. 'He had just about every pitch
working.'

Waite Hoyt allowed Pie Traynor to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and second baseman Tommy Thevenow had 2 base hits at Ebbetts Field where the
Pittsburgh Pirates beat the pathetic Brooklyn Dodgers 2 to 1.

Pittsburgh tallied 2 runs in the top of the 4th inning. After the 4th inning,
neither team was able to score. Hoyt(16-10) got the victory, allowing 1 run
for the game. Les Munns(7-7) was the loser. He gave up 2 runs and 5 hits in
9 innings.

bunt. One out later, Pinky Whitney came to the plate and delivered a
base-hit making Boston the victor and beginning a joyous home town
celebration. Boston had 10 hits for the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Flint Rhem(9-11) who allowed no runs in 2 and 1/3
