NL Player of the Week - Kiki Cuyler

NL Player of the Week

Hazen "Kiki" Cuyler

One of the very best players you've (or should I say I've) never heard of before embarking on this replay in Kiki Cuyler (HA 39). An all around player, Cuyler was as dangerous with his arm as his bat. Baseball Magazine even speculated earlier in his career (1925) that he might be the second Ty Cobb.

Playing for the Pirates though, he still had to share time with their other superstars of the great 1920s era Pittsburgh teams, such as the Waner brothers. This lead to him quarreling with his manager and subsequently being benched and then traded to Chicago where he had more great years before retiring to manage.
His name, Kiki (kuy-kuy) came from his childhood stutter.

Cuyler was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1968.
