Washington brought 3 runs across the plate in the 5th inning with the help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Fred Schulte who silenced Navin Field as he smacked a three-run homer (his 2nd of the season). Washington totaled 9 on the afternoon. Whitehill(13-5) got the victory, allowing 2 runs for the game. Tommy Bridges(9-9) suffered the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 9 hits in 8 innings. The game was won by Chicago with a run in the 9th inning. Zeke Bonura reached on an error. Luke Appling followed and he delivered a single. After an out was recorded, Marty Hopkins came to the plate and smacked a single resulting in an exciting win for Chicago and a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Chicago had only 6 hits for the game. Wyatt(4-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs for the game. Herb Pennock(3-1) was hit with the loss in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 2 innings of work. New York came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs utilizing 2 base hits. Jack Saltzgaver led off and started the rally when he laced a one-base hit. Babe Ruth stepped up next and he doubled which scored a run. After another out, Bill Dickey stepped up to the plate and he hit a deep fly scoring the final run of the inning. New York rapped out 11 hits for the afternoon. Russ Van Atta(2-6) went 3 innings allowing 2 runs for the victory. Lloyd Brown(4-8) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 2 hits in 1/3 of an inning. After the game, it took a long while before Walter Johnson emerged from his office. In a subdued tone he answered only a couple of questions. He concluded with, 'Fellows, sorry I'm not in a very talkative mood this afternoon, as I think you'll understand. I'm sure you'll find the banter a lot more light-hearted over in the New York locker room.' PHILADELPHIA AT ST. Jimmie Foxx enjoyed a big day at the plate. He lined a single scoring a run in the 2nd inning and blasted a two-run home run (his 33rd of the season) in the 4th inning. Philadelphia finished with 13 hits in the victory. Benton(8-6) allowed 1 run on the game. The losing pitcher was Bump Hadley(4-11). He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 6 walks in 8 innings. 'Benton pitched a gem of a game', Rogers Hornsby recounted. 'He kept our batters off balance the entire game.'

New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner. New York managed 7 in their victory. The victory was credited to Fitzsimmons(12-6) who went the distance, allowing 1 run. The losing pitcher was Guy Bush(8-6). He gave up 5 runs and 6 hits in 7 innings. The New York ballclub's record now stands at a league leading 50-35. With the loss, Chicago has a record of 4-6 lately, 49-36 overall. The game was won by Pittsburgh with a run in the top of the 8th inning. After two were out Gus Suhr lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 9th of the season). Pittsburgh banged out 10 on the afternoon. The victory went to French(10-7) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Fred Frankhouse(9-10) was charged with the loss. He pitched 9 innings and surrendered 10 hits and 1 walk. Pittsburgh now has a record of 45-34. With the loss, the Boston ballclub's record is 34-50, worst in the league. Johnny Babich(0-5) absorbed the loss. He was not very effective, surrendering 8 runs in 5 innings.
