Jim Weaver was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete
game as the Chicago Cubs defeated the Philadelphia Phillies by the score of 6
to 3 at Baker Bowl.

Weaver(9-8) pitched a solid game. He surrendered 11 hits and 5 walks in 9
innings. Both teams ended up with 11 on the afternoon.

Curt Davis(12-14) was given the loss. He surrendered 6 runs and 11 hits in 9
innings.

Roy Parmelee was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game at Polo Grounds where the mighty New York Giants beat the
pathetic Cincinnati Reds by the score of 10 to 3.

Cincinnati was unable to overcome the big offensive rally by New York in the
bottom of the 8th inning as they erupted for 9 runs on 7 hits. The critical
plate appearance was by Parmelee who excited the crowd when he caught a hold
of a fastball for a Grand Slam homerun. New York rapped out 11 hits for the
afternoon.

The win went to Parmelee(8-8) who allowed 3 runs in the game. Beryl
Richmond(0-1) was charged with the loss. By surrending 7 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings his ERA jumped from 1.86 to 4.24.

The New York ballclub's record now stands at 87-57. Cincinnati has a record
of 51-90, worst in the league after the loss.

Paul Waner had 4 hits as the Pittsburgh Pirates rallied impressively to win in
dramatic style over Brooklyn Dodgers, 5 to 4.

Pittsburgh came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th
inning scoring 3 runs on 4 hits. Pie Traynor opened up the inning nicely
when he doubled. Gus Suhr stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a
one-base hit resulting in a run. Suhr took second on the throw. Tommy
Thevenow then smacked a single plating another run. Thevenow took second on
the throw. After an out was recorded, Ralph Birkofer stepped up to the plate
and he laced a single. Lloyd Waner came to the plate and reached on an error
scoring the final run of the inning. Overall Pittsburgh out-hit Brooklyn 12
to 7.

The victory went to Birkofer(14-10) who went 8 and 2/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. Hal Smith earned his 2nd save. Van Lingle Mungo(10-21) took the loss.

In a tight game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 5, the Brooklyn Dodgers 3 in 10
innings at Ebbetts Field.

The score was knotted at 3 after nine innings. Pittsburgh came out on top in
the 10th inning. After two outs Fred Lindstrom opened up the rally as he hit
a single. Paul Waner came next and he cleared the fences for a two-run home
run (his 14th of the season). Both teams ended up with 10 on the afternoon.

Leon Chagnon(6-2) went 2 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Phil Page(1-1) was the losing pitcher in relief. He surrendered 3 hits and 1
walk in 3 innings.
