Goose Goslin blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI as the Detroit Tigers defeated
the New York Yankees by the score of 9 to 5 at Navin Field.

Goslin had a big day at the plate. He doubled in the 1st inning, smashed a
two-run homer (his 6th of the season) in the 3rd inning and slapped a single
bringing in a run in the 7th inning. For the game Detroit out-hit New York
16 to 9.

The victory was credited to Elden Auker(16-8) who went 7 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. Vic Sorrell earned his 1st save. The loss was charged to
Johnny Murphy(11-8). He was unable to control the Detroit offense and
allowed 14 hits and 3 walks in 6 and 2/3 innings.

Harlond Clift smashed 2 homeruns as the St. Louis Browns defeated the Boston
Red Sox by the score of 5 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.

Clift enjoyed a fine day at the plate. He lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' in
the 3rd inning, delivered a base-hit in the 5th inning and cracked a solo
homerun (his 10th of the season) in the 7th inning. St. Louis finished with
10 hits while Boston ended up with 7.

Jim Walkup(1-0) went 3 and 1/3 innings allowing no runs for the win. Johnny
Welch(11-10) was the losing pitcher. He gave up 10 hits and 1 walk in 7
innings.

Left fielder Al Simmons launched 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Comiskey Park
where the Chicago White Sox beat the Philadelphia Athletics by the score of 7
to 6.

Simmons enjoyed a big day at the plate. He cracked a two-run shot in the 1st
inning and popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 18th of the season) in
the 3rd inning. Philadelphia had a chance to come back in the 9th but they
came up short.

Milt Gaston(8-12) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 6 runs for the victory. Phil
Gallivan earned the save, his 6th. George Caster(2-1) was the losing
pitcher.

Center fielder Doc Cramer hit 2 doubles and scored 3 times at Comiskey Park as
the Philadelphia Athletics staged a comeback win over the Chicago White Sox
by the count of 7 to 6.

Philadelphia came up with the deciding runs in the top of the 9th inning with
2 runs on 4 hits. Ed Coleman led off and keyed the rally when he laced a
base-hit, and an error was also committed. Cramer next to the plate and he
slapped a one-base hit. After an out was recorded, Bob Johnson stepped up to
the plate and he slapped a single plating a run. Jimmie Foxx came up and he
ripped a base-knock scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia had 13
hits for the game and Chicago had 10.

Joe Cascarella(9-11) allowed 6 runs in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Roy Mahaffey was credited with his 2nd save. Harry Kinzy(3-2) was given the
loss in relief.

Jimmy Dykes was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in
the mood for questions, but I'm sure Connie Mack will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'

Heinie Manush had 3 base hits and 2 RBI and Bobby Burke went the distance at
League Park where the Washington Nationals beat the Cleveland Indians 5 to
3.

Washington wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning when they
scored 2 runs on 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Manush who helped
quiet the crowd when he stroked a single bringing in two baserunners.
Cleveland proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th.

The victory went to Burke(8-7) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Monte
Pearson(16-13) absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 innings allowing 11 hits and
4 walks.
