and Tommy Bridges threw a complete game shutout as the Detroit Tigers



defeated the Washington Nationals 3 to 0 at Navin Field.







Bridges(16-15) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He didn't give up



much, just 6 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Detroit had 9 hits for the



afternoon.







The loss was charged to Monte Weaver(9-14). He surrendered 9 hits and 1 walk



in 7 innings.

Earnshaw(10-16) put on a good performance. He was stingy on the mound,



allowing just 3 hits and 4 walks in 9 innings. Both teams finished the game



with 3 hits.







Johnny Welch(11-9) was given the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 2 hits in 7



innings. Chicago now has a record of 52-84. With this loss, Boston has a

Rick Ferrell hit 2 doubles and had 5 RBI as the Boston Red Sox beat the



Chicago White Sox by a score of 15 to 7.







Ferrell had a big day against Chicago. He ripped a base-knock plating two



runs in the 5th inning, doubled scoring a run in the 6th inning and doubled



bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning. Boston provided plenty of



action in the 4th inning which saw them plate 5 runs on 3 hits and the 5th



inning when they had 6 runs on 5 hits. Chicago scored in 5 different



innings, but their shaky pitching kept them from victory.







The win was credited to Gordon Rhodes(14-12) who went 6 and 2/3 innings



allowing 6 runs. Les Tietje(5-13) took the loss. He was not very effective,



surrendering 8 runs in 4 and 2/3 innings.

Hal Trosky homered and had 2 RBI and Mel Harder was able to finish what he



started and was credited with a complete game as the Cleveland Indians topped



the New York Yankees by a score of 5 to 3 at League Park.







Harder(14-8) earned his pay with a solid performance for Cleveland. He was



reached for 9 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings. Cleveland finished with 7 hits



in the victory.







Johnny Broaca(13-6) was charged with the loss. 'I had a little blister on my



index finger before the game, but I thought it was nothing.' Harder said. 'I



was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put the ball where I wanted it.'

Sugar Cain took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Philadelphia Athletics



defeated the St. Louis Browns in 11 innings 4 to 3 at Sportsman's Park.







The score was tied at 3 after nine. Philadelphia ended up winning it in the



11th inning. Jimmie Foxx doubled. Pinky Higgins followed and he reached on



an error scoring the run. Philadelphia and St. Louis each finished the



afternoon with 11 hits.







The win went to Roy Mahaffey(6-8) who allowed no runs in 2 and 2/3 innings.



The right-handed Cain lost his chance for a no-hitter when Alan Strange



doubled with one out in the 6th inning. Ed Wells(3-10) was hit with the loss



in relief. He was pinned with the loss despite not allowing an earned run in



his 1 inning of work.

Coffman got help from Jim Walkup who earned his 2nd save. Johnny Marcum(16-8)
