game as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Chicago Cubs by a score of 4 to 2
at Forbes Field.

as the streaking New York Giants beat the Boston Braves 5 to 2.
New York jumped on top to stay in the top of the 7th inning scoring one runner
using 2 hits. New York totaled 9 on the afternoon.
Parmelee(9-8) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Ben Cantwell(8-8)
suffered the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 9 innings of work.

Carl Hubbell pitched 9 strong innings as the blistering-hot New York Giants
defeated the Boston Braves by a score of 5 to 0 at Braves Field.
Boston was unable to claim the lead after New York went ahead in the top of
the 4th inning scoring one runner. New York managed 11 in their victory.
For Hubbell(23-9) it was his 10th shutout this year. The loss was charged to
Huck Betts(9-13). He gave up 9 hits and 1 walk in 8 and 1/3 innings.
'I've been working on a few things in my delivery, and I think I'm hitting a
good groove.' Hubbell said after the game. 'I'm ready to start another game
tomorrow!'

Center fielder Len Koenecke collected 2 extra-base hits and Van Lingle Mungo
pitched a complete game as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the floundering
Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings by a score of 3 to 2.
The score was knotted at 2 after nine innings. Brooklyn was victorious in the
11th inning. Johnny Frederick singled. After an out was recorded, Al Lopez
stepped in and he doubled making Brooklyn the victors to the delight of the
home town faithful. Brooklyn rapped out 10 hits for the afternoon.
The victory went to Mungo(11-21) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. The
losing pitcher was Phil Collins(14-14). He gave up 3 runs and 10 hits in 10
and 1/3 innings.

Leonard(13-5) finally bested his Philadelphia opposite, Syl Johnson(4-8), by
the score of 1 to 0.
Leonard pitched well for Brooklyn in their victory. He was reached for 10
hits and 2 walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. Brooklyn won despite being out-hit by
Philadelphia 10 hits to 4.
Leonard got relief help from Ownie Carroll who gained credit for his 3rd save.
Johnson ended up with the loss. He gave up just 1 run and 4 hits in 8

First baseman Rip Collins collected 3 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI as the
impressive St. Louis Cardinals crushed the Cincinnati Reds 12 to 2.
Collins had a big day at the plate. He doubled scoring a run in the 6th
inning, doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 8th inning and tripled in
the 9th inning. St. Louis ended up with 15 hits for the game while
Cincinnati had 12.
Bill Hallahan(8-6) picked up the victory, allowing 2 runs in 6 innings. Jesse
Haines gained credit for his 9th save. Benny Frey(5-17) was tagged with the
loss. He pitched 7 innings allowing 10 hits and no walks.

Tex Carleton had a strong outing and Joe Medwick had 4 hits as the amazing St.
Louis Cardinals topped the Cincinnati Reds by a score of 4 to 1 at Crosley
Field.
Carleton(20-6) gave St. Louis a solid outing. He allowed just 6 hits and no
walks in 9 innings. St. Louis finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Allyn Stout(5-11) took the loss. He allowed 11 hits and no walks in 8 and 1/3
innings. 'Carleton gave us exactly what we needed tonight,' Frankie Frisch
said. 'When he threw the fastball he threw it for strikes. They were really
fooled by his change. Most of the time he had them chasing it.'
