The game was won by Cleveland with a run in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Earl Averill reached on an error. After another out, Joe Vosmik came to the plate and doubled making Cleveland the victors to the delight of the home town faithful. Cleveland finished with 12 hits while Boston ended up with 9. Bob Weiland(10-6) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. The loss was charged to Rube Walberg(7-7) in relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1 and 2/3 innings of work. Cleveland never recovered after Boston took the lead in the top of the 3rd inning plating an isolated run using 2 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. Cleveland proved to be no trouble in the bottom of the 9th. The win was credited to Ostermueller(10-8) who went the whole way allowing 1 run. Willis Hudlin(10-13) took the loss. He pitched 9 innings giving up 11 hits and 5 walks. Selkirk was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine day at their team's expense. He lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 1st of the season) in the 6th inning and lined a base-hit plating two runs in the 7th inning. New York had 11 hits for the afternoon. Broaca(12-5) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. George Earnshaw(9-16) was the loser. He served up 3 gopher balls in 6 and 2/3 innings. New York now has a record of 74-59. With this loss, Chicago has a 3-7 record of late, 48-82, worst in the league overall. Detroit won the game with a rally in the 8th inning as they scored 5 runs on 4 base hits. The critical plate appearance was by Cochrane who excited the crowd when he smacked a single scoring two baserunners. This was a game of many highs and lows for the home town fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all. Auker(14-7) was the winner allowing 6 runs for the game. The losing pitcher was Bill Dietrich(10-7). He got hit pretty hard, allowing 11 hits and 5 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.

Detroit had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 2 runs. Charlie Gehringer got things going when he reached on an error. Greenberg came next and he popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 20th of the season) giving Detroit the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Detroit won despite being out-hit by Philadelphia 9 hits to 6. Bridges(14-15) allowed 4 runs on the game. Roy Vaughn(0-2) absorbed the loss in relief.
