Right fielder Mel Ott slammed 2 homeruns and had 5 RBI and Roy Parmelee



allowed Bill Terry to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game at Polo



Grounds as the New York Giants beat the Chicago Cubs 10 to 1.







Ott enjoyed a great day at the plate. Every time he came up in the latter



innings, the crowd was on their feet cheering. He cracked a two-run shot in



the 4th inning, laced a base-knock which plated a run in the 5th inning and



cracked a solo homerun (his 40th of the season) in the 7th inning. New York



rapped out 14 hits for the afternoon.







The victory went to Parmelee(7-6) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Bill



Lee(11-10) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving



up 6 runs in 5 innings.







'I felt great out there today,' Ott said, 'Maybe I should make a regular habit



of getting to bed on time!'

Bill Urbanski had 2 base hits and Ed Brandt completed the game without help



from the bullpen as the red-hot Boston Braves defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates



by the score of 3 to 2 at Braves Field.







Boston took the lead for keeps in the 7th inning scoring a single run. After



an out was recorded, Brandt drew a walk. Urbanski was next and he laced a



one-base hit. Urbanski took second on the throw. Tommy Thompson then would



ground out scoring the run. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but Boston was



able to put down the rally.







The win went to Brandt(11-14) who allowed 2 runs in the game. Ralph



Birkofer(13-9) ended up with the loss. With the win, Boston continued their



winning ways; their streak now stands at 7 games and counting. 'We've really



come alive lately,' Bill McKechnie said. 'We won some tough games and I feel



real good about this ballclub right now, and hopefully we'll continue the



roll we're on.'

Spud Davis jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the impressive St.



Louis Cardinals defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers 8 to 7 at Ebbetts Field.







Davis had a big day against Brooklyn. He delivered a solo blast (his 10th of



the season) in the 2nd inning, ripped a base-knock scoring a run in the 6th



inning and delivered a base-hit resulting in a run in the 8th inning. St.



Louis ended up with 16 hits for the game while Brooklyn had 9.







Jesse Haines(7-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 4 innings and allowing



no runs. Les Munns(6-6) was charged with the loss in relief. He got hit



pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 3 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.
