26,598 fans watched an exciting game at Navin Field. The Detroit Tigers
topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Detroit had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 7th inning.
Washington was out-hit by Detroit, 7 hits to 4. Chief Hogsett(6-3) picked up
the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Luke Hamlin earned his 5th save.
Bobby Burke(7-7) was the losing pitcher.

The winning ways continue for Detroit. They now have a record of 8-2 in
recent days. Joe Cronin was unhappy with his club's recent performance. 'We
can't keep losing games' he said. 'It gets to be embarrassing after a
while.'

Catcher Rick Ferrell had 2 base hits and 4 RBI and Wes Ferrell tossed a
complete game as the Boston Red Sox defeated the hapless Chicago White Sox in
10 innings 6 to 5 at Comiskey Park.

The game was deadlocked at 5 after nine full innings. Boston won it in the
10th inning. After an out was recorded, Moose Solters tripled. Ferrell next
to the plate and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Boston won despite
being out-hit by Chicago 12 hits to 9.

Ferrell(15-5) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 5 runs. Ted
Lyons(6-14) absorbed the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings giving up 3
hits and no walks.

Red Ruffing blanked Cleveland in a very well-pitched complete game as the New
York Yankees beat the Cleveland Indians by a score of 4 to 0.

Ruffing(14-11) was very good in the win. He allowed only 7 hits and 4 walks
in 9 innings. New York totaled 10 on the afternoon.

Thornton Lee(2-4) was hit with the loss. He surrendered 3 runs and 8 hits in
7 innings.

Bobo Newsom went the distance as the St. Louis Browns topped the Philadelphia
Athletics by a score of 3 to 1 at Sportsman's Park.

St. Louis wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring a
single run on 2 hits. The Philadelphia bats were silent in the 9th.

Newsom(15-8) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Jack Wilson(0-2) was
tagged with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 7
walks.

George Caster completed the game without help from the bullpen and Bob Johnson
hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Athletics outscored
the St. Louis Browns 5 to 2.

Johnson led the offense for Philadelphia. He doubled knocking in a run in the
1st inning, lashed a single resulting in a run in the 3rd inning and lofted a
solo-blast 'downtown' (his 39th of the season) in the 6th inning.
Philadelphia rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Caster(2-0) who allowed 2 runs for the game. The loss
was charged to Bobo Newsom(15-9). He surrendered 6 hits and 3 walks in 7
