Lon Warneke went 9 strong innings as the Chicago Cubs topped the Boston Braves
by a score of 6 to 1 at Braves Field.

Chicago took the lead off Flint Rhem in the first inning plating an isolated
run. After an out was recorded, Billy Herman hit a single. Herman swiped
second base. Rhem then was wild with a pitch. Kiki Cuyler was up next and
he would ground out scoring the run. Chicago had 11 hits for the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Warneke(21-7) who went the distance, allowing 1
run. Rhem(8-10) was the loser. He pitched 7 and 2/3 innings giving up 9 hits
and 1 walk.

Len Koenecke collected 2 extra-base hits and had 3 RBI at Ebbetts Field as the
Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Cincinnati Reds by the count of 13 to 5.

Brooklyn jumped out to the early lead in the first inning when they tallied 2
runs on 1 hit. Brooklyn ended up with 18 hits for the game while Cincinnati
had 12.

The victory went to Ownie Carroll(2-3) who went 6 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5
runs. Ted Kleinhans(2-5) ended up with the loss. He had trouble throwing
strikes and issued 5 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings.

With this win, Brooklyn has a 52-83 record. They have been 3-7 lately. With
the loss, Cincinnati has a record of 3-7 lately, 48-86, worst in the league
overall.

Carl Hubbell tossed a fine 2 hitter and Mel Ott homered and had 2 RBI as the
New York Giants defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 1 at Polo Grounds.

New York went ahead for good in the 2nd inning scoring one runner using 3
hits. New York banged out 12 on the afternoon.

Hubbell(21-8) got the victory, allowing 1 run for the game. The losing pitcher
was Ralph Birkofer(13-10). He was unable to control the New York offense and
allowed 12 hits and 4 walks in 8 innings.

Kiddo Davis had 4 hits and Phil Collins tossed a complete game shutout as the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8 to 0.

The Philadelphia fans enjoyed the offense provided by Davis. He tripled in
the 1st inning, electrified the crowd with a Grand Slam home run (his 7th of
the season) in the 2nd inning, delivered a one-base hit in the 4th inning and
laced a base-knock in the 6th inning. Neither team managed to score after
the 4th inning.

Collins(14-12) went the distance for the shutout. Dazzy Vance(3-7) was the
loser. He gave up 8 runs in 4 innings of work. 'Davis led the way - we just
jumped on his back and let him take us,' Collins said. 'I'm glad I don't have
to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
