Allyn Stout tossed a complete game at Ebbetts Field where the Cincinnati Reds
beat the dreadful Brooklyn Dodgers in 10 innings by the score of 4 to 1.
The score was tied at 1 after nine. Cincinnati ended up winning it in the
10th inning. Adam Comorosky got things going when he lined a single. Stout
next to the plate and he reached on an error. After an out was recorded,
Tony Piet stepped in and he tripled scoring two teammates. Tom Zachary then
uncorked a pitch that was ruled a passed ball scoring the final run of the
inning. Cincinnati totaled 10 on the afternoon.
The win went to Stout(5-9) who allowed 1 run in the game. Johnny Babich(0-12)
absorbed the loss. He pitched 9 and 1/3 innings and surrendered 9 hits and 2
walks.

Hal Schumacher was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game and Mel Ott had 2 base hits as the incredible New York Giants
defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 4 to 2 at Polo Grounds.
Pittsburgh fell behind quickly as the New York offense came through in the
first inning scoring 2 runs on 3 hits. After two outs Bill Terry got things
rolling when he delivered a single. Ott stepped up next and he laced a
one-base hit. Ott took second on the throw. Travis Jackson then doubled
driving home two runs. Both teams ended up with 9 on the afternoon.
Schumacher(16-10) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Waite
Hoyt(14-10) was hit with the loss. He allowed 9 hits and 1 walk in 8
innings.

852 fans were treated to a fine game at Baker Bowl as only one run separated
the combatants at game's end. The Philadelphia Phillies won by the slimmest
of margins, 3 to 2.
St. Louis was unable to recover after Philadelphia went ahead in the 6th
inning scoring one runner utilizing 2 base hits. Ethan Allen laced a single.
Dolph Camilli was the next batter, but he struck out. Bucky Walters got his
chance to keep things going, but he went down on strikes. Jimmie Wilson
stepped in and he doubled scoring the run. Philadelphia out-hit St. Louis
for the game, 10 hits to 7.
Phil Collins(13-12) got the win allowing 2 runs in 7 and 2/3 innings. Syl
Johnson got the save, his 3rd. The loss was charged to Dizzy Dean(19-9).
The Philadelphia ballclub's record now stands at 57-73. With this loss, St.
Louis has a 7-3 record of late, 84-49 overall.
