Lee was really in 'the zone'. He popped a two-run clout over the fence (his 8th of the season) in the 3rd inning, lined a single bringing in two baserunners in the 5th inning, lined a base-hit in the 7th inning and lined a one-base hit knocking in a run in the 9th inning. Boston bats were very productive in the 5th inning when they had 4 runs on 4 hits. Boston had 20 hits for the game and Pittsburgh had 10. Huck Betts(8-10) was the winner allowing 5 runs in 6 innings. Betts got relief help from Bob Smith who gained credit for his 8th save. Larry French(14-11) was hit with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 3 walks in 4 and 1/3 innings. Pittsburgh drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning scoring 3 runners on 4 hits. The early run support proved sufficient for Hoyt(13-9) and Pittsburgh. That was all the run support Hoyt required. Pittsburgh totaled 9 on the afternoon. Leo Mangum(2-3) took the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 5 hits in 7 innings. BROOKLYN AT ST. LOUIS Dodgers......... 0 2 0 0 0 0 0 1 0 - 3 6 2 Cardinals....... 1 0 3 0 0 1 3 2 - 10 14 0 Win:Walker(10-3) Loss:Babich(0-10) Homeruns- T.Cuccinello(11th), J.Medwick(13th) Bill Walker allowed Frankie Frisch to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and Joe Medwick went yard and had 3 RBI as the seemingly unstoppable St. Louis Cardinals defeated the ice-cold Brooklyn Dodgers by a score of 10 to 3 at Sportsman's Park. Brooklyn was unable to claim the lead after St. Louis went ahead in the 3rd inning scoring 3 runs utilizing 4 base hits. Pepper Martin started the inning off right when he reached on an error. Jack Rothrock was next and he stroked a single. Frisch then slapped a one-base hit plating a run. After an out was recorded, Rip Collins stepped in and he laced a single as another two runners scored. That was all the runs Walker(10-3) needed. St. Louis managed 14 in their victory. Johnny Babich(0-10) was hit with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 11 hits and 3 walks in 6 innings. It was another victory for St. Louis at Sportsman's Park. Now their winning streak stands at 7 games. Frisch was happy with his team's performance of late - 'They're playing solid ball right now' he said. 'Let's hope they can stay focused.' NEW YORK AT CHICAGO Giants.......... 1 1 3 0 1 0 0 0 0 - 6 12 1 Cubs............ 0 0 0 4 0 0 2 0 1 - 7 12 1 Win:Root(6-3) Loss:Smith(3-6) Chicago Cubs broke the deadlock in their last at bats, pulling out a 7 to 6 win over the New York Giants and sending their hometown fans home smiling. The deciding run was scored by Chicago in the 9th. Stan Hack stroked a one-base hit. Hack was safe at second on a stolen base. Chuck Klein then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Kiki Cuyler came up and he would hit into a fielders choice resulting in a mighty exciting win for Chicago and the 18,659 home town fans in attendance. Both teams ended up with 12 on the afternoon. Charlie Root(6-3) allowed no runs in 2/3 of an inning, and picked up the victory. The losing pitcher was Al Smith(3-6) in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning and surrendered 1 hit and no walks.
