BOSTON AT CINCINNATI Braves.......... 1 1 0 2 2 9 2 2 0 - 19 25 0 Reds............ 0 0 1 0 1 0 0 2 3 - 7 10 2 Win:Brandt(9-13) Loss:Johnson(7-13) Marty McManus had 5 hits and 3 RBI as the woeful Cincinnati Reds were badly beaten by the Boston Braves, 19 to 7. McManus provided much of the offense. He stroked a base-hit in the 2nd inning, delivered a single bringing in a run in the 4th inning, slapped a one-base hit which scored a run in the 5th inning, laced a base-knock in the 6th inning and doubled knocking in a run in the 8th inning. Boston bats were hot in the 6th inning when they had 9 runs on 8 hits. The Boston offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings. Ed Brandt(9-13) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and allowing 7 runs. The loss was charged to Si Johnson(7-13). He was unable to control the Boston offense and allowed 10 hits and 5 walks in 5 innings. NEW YORK AT ST. It was a good day for St. Louis thanks to Collins. He blasted a two-run home run in the 4th inning, cracked a solo homerun (his 32nd of the season) in the 6th inning and lashed a single in the 8th inning. New York proved to be no trouble in the 9th. The win was credited to Dean(15-8) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs. Joe Bowman(3-5) was the loser. He allowed 3 homeruns in 6 and 1/3 innings of work. Tony Freitas(5-11) slammed the door shut in an excellent relief performance. He was stingy on the mound, allowing just 1 hit and no walks in 2 innings. Cincinnati ended up with 14 hits for the game while Boston had 5. Flint Rhem(7-8) absorbed the loss. He pitched 7 and 1/3 innings giving up 14 hits and no walks. BROOKLYN AT CHICAGO Dodgers......... 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 - 1 9 0 Cubs............ 1 0 0 1 2 0 3 0 - 7 12 0 Win:Malone(11-8) Loss:Benge(11-14) Homeruns- G.Hartnett(20th) Gabby Hartnett slammed a homerun and had 3 RBI and Pat Malone was able to finish what he started and was credited with a complete game at Wrigley Field as the Chicago Cubs beat the floundering Brooklyn Dodgers 7 to 1. Malone(11-8) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 9 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings. Chicago finished with 12 hits in the victory. Ray Benge(11-14) absorbed the loss. He was unable to control the Chicago offense and allowed 12 hits and 3 walks in 8 innings.
